Yeonggwang Beopseongpo Dano Festival is a historic folk festival with over 500 years of history and tradition that started in the mid-Joseon Dynasty. Beopseongpo, where fishing has been the main focus since ancient times, has held a ritual to the Inui Mountain God to pray for safety, and a Yongwangje to the sea to pray for a good fortune. In addition, the skills of talented people who learned Pansori and Jjagi through the Soopjaengi Korean Music Competition were widely known anywhere in the country. Beopseongpo Danoje Festival, which has continued its long history and tradition, was designated as a national important intangible cultural asset in 2012 with Nanjangteogi, Yongwangje, Seonyu Nori, and Forester Korean Traditional Music Contest, establishing itself as a traditional cultural festival representing the Republic of Korea. It is held every year around Dano on May 5th of the lunar calendar, and includes events designated as nationally important intangible cultural assets as well as wrestling competitions, folk games, celebratory performances, and various experiential events.
