Even in Yeongwol, the ‘museum village’ with as many as 28 museums, there is a museum that stands out. Yeongwol Media Journalist Museum is a remodeled closed school in the Korean Peninsula, Gangwon-do. Opened in 2012, this is not only Korea’s first and only journalist museum, but also an experience space for children to become reporters. The ‘one-day reporter experience’ for the whole family starts at a small outdoor exhibition hall. The is in full swing at the right time in the space where the press photos of the reporters are displayed. ‘Ah! My Motherland’ is a photo taken by Myeongjin Koh, director of the Yeongwol Media Museum, while he was a photographer for the Hankook Ilbo. This work became famous as it was included in the ‘World’s Top 100 Photographs of the 20th Century’ selected by the AP, and was included in middle school social studies textbooks. In the exhibition room, you can see exhibits stained by the hands of reporters on site and experience reporters using the latest equipment such as helicams and drones. The Korean Peninsula, where the museum is located, is famous for the topography of the Korean Peninsula in Yeongwol (Scenic Beauty No. 75). The shape of the Pyeongchang River, a tributary of the Namhan River, winding around the elongated forests and sandbanks is the map of the Korean Peninsula. Yeongwol Cheongnyeongpo (Scenic Spot No. 50) is a place of exile during the Joseon Dynasty. If you look around Gwanpungheon, where King Danjong met his end, and Yeongwol Jangneung (Historic Site No. 196), which was built belatedly, it is perfect for a historical trip with a child.
