On August 1, 2020, the ‘Battle Rock Mountain Road’ in the Mureung Valley in Donghae City was partially opened. Among the total 4.7km of hiking trails between Mureung Valley Management Office and Bakdal Valley, the 2.7km section is between Mureung Valley Management Office and the entrance to Dutasanseong Fortress. It was named this way because the newly laid trail connects Battle Rock and Duta Fortress. It is not easy for beginners to take on the challenge because the trail continues uphill from the beginning, and in summer, you must prepare plenty of water. If you continue uphill for about an hour past the Hyuhyu Meditation Rest Area and the site of the charcoal kiln, which is the habitat of Geumgang pine, you will come to the boxwood habitat. After passing here, it is the last uphill road. You have to climb the steep wooden stairs. As the name suggests, the appearance of the rock seen from the observatory, which arrived with breathlessness, is like a loom. There is a legend that a fairy who violated the order of the heavenly kingdom came down after being punished, weaved three hemp cloths here in Mureung Valley, repented of her mistakes, and ascended to heaven. The scenery across the loom rock is also spectacular. Dutasan’s reputation as ‘the best view in the world’ is by no means an exaggeration. If you are a beginner in climbing, it will take you 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours to reach this point. When you go down, just retrace your steps. It is also good to sit on the Mureung Rock and enjoy the cool feet.
