If you cross Daegwallyeong, you will find Gangneung, the first town in Yeongdong. The first place travelers visit in Gangneung is Gyeongpo Beach and Lake Gyeongpo with Gyeongpodae. In particular, the area around Gyeongpo Lake in April presents the most beautiful scenery of the year. This is because the white cherry blossoms around Gyeongpoho Lake are bursting into bloom, creating a spectacular view. Gyeongpodae and Gyeongpoho Lake, designated as Scenic Beauty No. 108, have been frequented by poets and calligraphers who have been looking for superb views since ancient times. Starting with Hongjangam, a beautiful love story from the Goryeo Dynasty, and the gagok ‘Song of the Boatman’, there are endless stories along Gyeongpoho Lake, including fertilization and sculpture trails, and Hong Gil-dong’s character road. The Charmsori Gramophone and Edison Science Museum, where you can meet the phonograph and Edison’s inventions, are also attractions in Gyeongpo.
