- Chodang-dong, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do
Soft tofu from Chodang Village in Gangneung, full of the scent of the sea, has a deep story and taste. The restaurants here adhere to the traditional method of making tofu using domestic soybeans, using seawater as salt. It is said that Chodang tofu originated from the fact that Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon’s fathers boiled soybean water with the spring water in front of their house and seasoned it with seawater to make tofu. In Chodang-dong Tofu Village, there are nearly 20 restaurants that have been serving soft tofu restaurants for generations. The scene of old women with bent backs boiling bean water in a cauldron is a warm dawn scene in Gangneung. The taste of soft tofu made with care is savory and the texture is fluffy and soft. The taste of soft tofu topped with bean sprouts and aged kimchi instead of soy sauce is also excellent. After filling your stomach with tofu, it is good to take a walk around the Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Hall, Anmok Beach Coffee Street, Gyeongpo Beach Pine Forest, and Gangneung Seongyojang.
