Seoul Gyeonguiseon Book Street, a city walk with books

Local people
Wausan-ro 35-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul

The abandoned railroad met ‘books’ and transformed into a unique complex publishing culture space. On the site of the abandoned railroad, 6 bookstores by field including literature, travel, humanities, and art have been established, and cute sculptures have been installed. Various events such as book exhibitions, sales, lectures, readings, meetings with authors, experiences, and education are held 312 days a year except for Mondays, which are closed days. Gyeonguiseon Book Street, which is also part of the Gyeonguiseon Forest Trail, is the perfect place to enjoy a late autumn afternoon by browsing books in a bookstore you like while taking a walk. Gyeonguiseonbook Street was created in October 2016. As part of the Gyeongui Line went underground, Mapo-gu created a book-themed street using the remaining space above ground. It runs for about 250m from Exit 6 of Hongik University Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line to Wau Bridge. The first place you meet after coming out of the subway station is the Gyeonguiseon Book Street management office building. There is a book street guide map, so be sure to bring it with you if you want to look around carefully. Monthly events and event calendars can also be found here. ‘Space Walk’, where meetings with writers and book concerts are held, is also located here.
