June in Hwacheon is a world of quiet and mysterious greenery. Forests and water intertwine in a land untouched by the public, creating an ecological feast. Hwacheon Yanguidae Wetland is a hidden treasure trove of the Civilian Control Line ecosystem. If you go up the Civilian Control Zone (Civilian Control Line) along the Bukhangang River from the Peace Dam, you will see a vast wetland upstream. The 12km wetland from the Andong Railroad Bridge has been preserved intact for over half a century, and is known to be home to natural monuments and rare plants such as otters, musk deer, and mountain goats. The traces of animals going to the riverside to drink water are impressive as if they have entered a strange world. In the lower reaches of Yanguidae Wetland, there is Peace Dam, where the World Peace Bell and Bimok Park are located. It is good to end the ecological tour by looking around the ‘Bridge to the Forest’ road and the otter research center.
