Intoxicated by the scent and in love with the sea, Ansan Badahyanggi Arboretum (newly opened tourist destination)

Badahyanggi Arboretum, located on Seongamdo Island in Daebudo Island, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do, is an arboretum where you can enjoy the vast sea while drinking fresh phytoncide. Opened in May 2019, more than 300,000 plants of over 1,000 species, such as hornbeam and black pine, which grow a lot on the west coast, inhabit about 101 hectares (about 300,000 pyeong). The Badahyanggi Arboretum is special because it has a salt plant garden, an island botanical garden, and a sand dune garden. You can meet small and large plants that live on mudflats or sandy beaches, such as seaweed grass and mosaedal, which are hard to find in other arboretums. In addition, Sea Wave Garden, an ecological pond that embodies the swaying sea, reminds me of the impressionist painter Monet’s work, and in the rose garden, roses called ‘Queen of Flowers’ boast a fascinating scent. Climbing up the hill, you will see the landmark of Badahyanggi Arboretum, ‘Sangsang View’. It means ‘a place where all imaginations can be seen’, and you can see the open West Sea and Sihwa Lake at a glance. The uphill road made of broken pieces of pottery is also a specialty. Decorating the 70m hill road with waves, fish, clouds, sky, and sun, it is a good place to let your imagination run wild. Badahyanggi Arboretum has no admission fee, and viewing hours are from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, closed on Mondays. There are no canteens or trash cans, so bring water and snacks, and be sure to take your trash with you.
