After the 2018 inter-Korean summit, interest in peace tourist destinations increased as the air of peace flowed on the Korean Peninsula. The Goseong Unification Observation Tower, which opened at the end of December last year, has emerged as a ‘new face’ and ‘hot place’ for peace tourism. The Goseong Unification Observation Tower, built next to the former Unification Observatory, which has been in place since 1984, draws attention by embodying the ‘D’ of the DMZ at a height of 34m. On the first floor, photos of separated families are displayed, while an outdoor observatory with a cool view is provided. On the second floor, there is an observation education room with a panoramic view of the northern land through a glass front, and a unification publicity hall filled with interesting exhibitions related to the north and the south. When you go up to the observatory on the 3rd floor at the top of the building, you feel as if you are looking at North Korea from above. As regular education programs are conducted in the Observation Training Room on the 2nd floor, it is effective to listen to the explanations and enjoy the views from various locations. It is good to look around the 6.25 War Experience Exhibition Hall located in the parking lot of the Goseong Unification Observation Tower and the nearby DMZ Museum. If you want to enjoy the unspoiled natural scenery of Goseong, let’s head to Hwajinpo and Songjiho, which are the 8th scenic view of Goseong and the lagoon. Goseong’s representative tourist destination did not suffer direct damage from the forest fire that occurred in April. Let’s remember that ‘a trip to Goseong is another donation’.
