Experience the reality of division in the northernmost part of the country, Goseong Unification Observatory and DMZ Museum

Local people
Gangwon Goseong-gun Hyeonnae-myeon Geumgangsan-ro / Hyeonnae-myeon Unification Observatory

Goseong, Gangwon-do is a place where the heartbreaking reality of division can be felt. Standing at the Unification Observatory, you can see the Armistice Line and Mt. Geumgang at a glance. The emerald-colored sea spreading to the right creates a strange feeling in line with the painful reality. The mysterious peak of Mt. Geumgang is also visible. Inside the observatory, daily necessities and various materials that reveal the reality of North Korean residents are displayed. The DMZ Museum, close to the Unification Observatory, is a place to reflect on the meaning of unification. You can see exhibitions related to the Korean War and the DMZ, including war and military materials and artifacts, nature, ecology, folklore, and art. Hwajinpo Beach is a place where the romance of the winter sea overflows. The beach, made of broken shells and rocks, was called “Myeongsa (鳴沙)” because it made a ‘charr-ruk-charr-ruk’ sound whenever the waves passed by. The Hwajinpouiseong Fortress building, which was used as Kim Il-sung’s villa, also remains. Song Ji-ho retains a more beautiful appearance than any other lagoon. There is a trail that goes around the lake and is good for a walk. Located 10 minutes from Hwajinpo, Geojinhang Port is the representative port of Goseong.
