The basis of the Eumseong Pumba Festival is the life of the late grandfather Choi Gwi-dong, a beggar saint. Today, Father Oh Woong-jin became the mother of the establishment of Kkottongnae, and he himself is the one who, with a disability himself, traveled around the area around Mugeuk-ri, Geumwang-eup, to feed beggars who could not even beg for food. For this reason, his life is evaluated as a saint of love that no one can imitate.
The story of Pumbaa has been handed down in various forms. Pumbaran gakseol has been transmitted as an onomatopoeia that serves as a kind of rhythm used in the chorus of taryeong. The Eumseong Pumba Festival combines Pumba, which has traditionally been synonymous with a street vendor, and Grandpa Choi Gwi-dong’s philanthropic spirit.
Even if our lives living in modern times have become richer, mental poverty and inequality still exist. The festival was born with the proposition that this society should be experienced with catharsis through satire and humor and ‘healed through love and sharing’. In addition, the Eumseong Pumba Festival is a spiritual and cultural festival that practices love and sharing.
