Baebawi Canoe Village is located at the western end of Hongcheon-gun, at the lower reaches of the Hongcheon River that leads to Cheongpyeong Lake. It is close to Chuncheon, Gapyeong, Cheongpyeong, and Yangpyeong, and is convenient to access from the metropolitan area. It is called Baebawi (Baebawi) because the two towering rocks on the riverside resemble a large boat. The river in front of the village is not deep and has a slow flow, so it is good for canoeing. The wide riverside, covered with sand and gravel, was occupied by nice camping cars and large and small tents. The children were excited about the water swallow competition, and Kang Tae-gong, who cast a fishing rod alone, added to the leisurely afternoon scenery. The canoe experience course is a 4km round-trip course that goes from under Chungui Bridge to Baebawi Rock and takes about an hour. There are 16 regular canoes, 5 transparent canoes, and 5 kayaks. There is also a campsite within a 5-minute walk. There are comfortable bungalows with TVs, so you don’t need camping equipment. For groups, you can also experience activities such as catching fish with your bare hands and making traditional rice cakes. There is a memorial hall for independence activist Hanseo Namgung-eok near the village, and Gongjaksan Sutasa Temple is also worth a visit, about 50 minutes away. As the name suggests, walking along the Gongjak Mountain Ecological Forest Oxygen Road, filled with clear and refreshing air, deepens your breathing and clears your head. Don’t miss out on the Hongcheon Traditional Market, which includes the Hongcheon Museum of Art, Hongcheon Cathedral, permanent market, and five-day market (last 1st and 6th) in Hongcheon-eup.
