Inaugurated in 2014 on the grounds of the former Dongdaemun Stadium, DDP was designed by Pritzker Prize laureate Zaha Hadid around the concept of a 'Metonymic Landscape'. Void of standard rectangular columns, the colossal curving structure seamlessly blends interior exhibition pathways, landscaped walkable rooftops, and flowing pedestrian plazas.

Beneath its futuristic metallic shell, DDP thoughtfully preserves excavated historical treasures, including parts of the 14th-century Seoul City Wall (Hanyangdoseong) and Joseon-era military workshops.
