Gangwon-do in winter is a feast of snow and ice. In Pyeongchang, the main stage of the Winter Olympics, snowflake trekking on Seonjae-gil at the foot of Mt. Odae is dazzling. Seonjae-gil, which connects Woljeongsa Temple and Sangwonsa Temple, is a forest path used by monks in the past. Seonjae-gil along the valley adds to the serenity of snow in winter. Hiking along Seonjae-gil takes about three hours and is accompanied by charming sights such as Seopdari Bridge and Rocking Bridge. Chuncheon’s Gugok Waterfall beats the cold with dizzying ice climbing. Gugok Falls at the foot of Mt. Bonghwa is the highlight of the 50m high ice waterfall and large icicles. In winter, a rope hangs over the waterfall and ‘Spider-Man’ challenges ice climbing. Just watching the waterfall from the observatory is thrilling. In Pyeongchang, it is worth stopping by the Jinbu Traditional Market and the Pyeongchang Trout Festival, which are the backgrounds of the novel When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom. In Chuncheon, the Toy Robot Hall and Kim Yu-jeong Literature Village, which stimulate children’s minds, present a twist of fun.
