- Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do
One of the hottest winter spots in Sokcho, Gangwon-do is Cheoksan Hot Springs. The hot spring in Cheoksan, which exceeds 50℃, warms the frozen body after walking in the cold sea and hiking in Seoraksan Mountain. Nohak-dong, where Cheoksan Hot Spring is located, has been called ‘Onjeong-ri’ and ‘socks’ since ancient times. Even in winter, the water in the puddle does not freeze well, so village women used it as a laundry place. In the 1970s, a large amount of hot spring water gushed out, and Cheoksan Hot Spring became known to the world. Cheoksan Hot Springs claims to be ‘non-heating water’ with natural hot spring water around 50℃. Strong alkaline hot spring water containing radon and fluorine is particularly effective for skin diseases. Cheoksan Hot Spring Recreation Village and Cheoksan Hot Spring Resort are representative hot springs, and the Cheoksan Hot Spring Resort Village has an impressive pine forest trail. After bathing in the hot springs, let’s take a tour of the secluded Cheongchoho-gil, Abai Village with traces of refugees from Hamgyeong-do, and Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market where you can enjoy various flavors, including sweet and sour chicken. It will be a time to add winter memories of your trip to Sokcho.
