The Seodaemun Museum of Natural History, which opened in 2003, is the first natural history museum in Korea directly planned and established by a local government. It has become a popular museum visited by hundreds of thousands of people every year thanks to not only the geographical advantage of Seoul, but also vivid dioramas, self-produced videos, and various experience programs. The Seodaemun Prison History Museum, which is about 3km away from here, started as Gyeongseong Prison built by the Japanese in 1908. Afterwards, it was changed to Seodaemun Prison, Seodaemun Prison, Seoul Prison, Seoul Prison, and Seoul Detention Center, and in 1987, when the democratization of Korea began, the Seoul Detention Center moved to Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do, and was reborn as the Seodaemun Prison History Museum in 1998. The journey that started in Seodaemun-gu continues to Jongno-gu. The first place to visit is Seochon (Sejong Village), which is emerging as a ‘hot place’ following Bukchon Hanok Village. In addition, it is worth visiting the Seoul Museum of History, where you can see the history of the 600-year-old capital, Seoul, and Gyeonghuigung Palace, where painful history remains.
