Again, blossom into art! Seoul Mullae Creative Village and Seongsu-dong Handmade Shoes Street

Mullae-dong, which was once the largest steel industrial complex in Seoul and still has about 1,000 ironworks, earned the name ‘Mulrae Creative Village’ as artists built their nests. There are paintings and sculptures on the factory walls, iron gates, and all over the streets, announcing that this place is blooming again as art. Thanks to this, young people with cameras visit Mullae-dong on weekends. If artists led the urban regeneration of Mullae-dong, Seongsu-dong Handmade Shoes Street was led by people in related industries. Together with the local government, they turn the Seongsu-dong area into a ‘handmade shoes street’ and operate various attractions, shopping, and experience spaces. The ‘Butterfly Garden’ in Seoul Forest near Seongsu-dong Handmade Shoes Street is also the result of an urban regeneration project using an old water purification plant. ‘Jamimi-ro’, which runs from Exit 3 of Myeongdong Station on Subway Line 4 to the Seoul Animation Center, is decorated with cartoon characters. Visit the nearby National Folk Museum during the Chuseok holiday and the National Hangeul Museum around Hangeul Day.
