The National Astronomical Observatory is an astronomical observatory built near the central point of the country to look at the sky from the center of Korea. If you go up about 300m along the Dochon Makguksu House at the entrance of Dochon-ri, Yanggu-gun, you will see a building that looks like a robot Taekwon V. At the entrance of the observatory, there is a sculpture indicating that it is the center of the country. As soon as you enter the astronomical observatory, an explanation about the center of the Korean peninsula is given, so it is good to take a close look before visiting the observatory. Due to the nature of the observatory, the viewing start time is late. You can visit from 2:00 PM, but instead, you can enjoy leisurely until late at night. In the astronomical projection room, you can lie on a chair and go on a virtual night sky and space trip. You can watch 3D videos about constellations and the universe for each time period or science fiction films with the theme of ‘The World’. The videos showing the creation of the Earth and the galaxy from the present to the present are made on a three-dimensional screen, so they are vivid and fun. In particular, there are many characters that children like, so they can enjoy watching without getting bored. When traveling to the National Astronomical Observatory, it is a bonus to visit the museum and art gallery located in Yanggu-eup. The Yanggu Prehistoric Museum, Local History Museum, artificial wetland and Gwangchi Natural Recreation Forest are all close by, so it is a good course to enjoy a winter trip.
