The cold winter sea and the warmth of hanok create a cozy harmony. If you want to see an old house in Gangneung, go to Gyeongpo. Ojukheon, Seongyojang, etc. are places where hundreds of years old houses and hanok accommodations are harmonized on the way to the sea. Gangneung Ojukheon (Treasure No. 165) is the house where Shin Saimdang and his son, Yulgok Lee I, were born. There is a black bamboo[烏竹]from which the name was derived nearby. Beyond the fence of Ojukheon, Gangneung Ojuk Hanok Village opened, and it is unique in that it has an ondol room built in the traditional way. Gangneung Seongyojang, which is considered the best old house in the Yeongdong region, is a nobleman’s house that has been well-preserved in its original form for over 300 years, and you can stay overnight. The main house, sarangchae, Hwarraejeong, and tower gates are elegant, and the cypress forest on the hill in the backyard adds elegance. Gyeongpo Beach, Chodang Tofu Village, and Jumunjin Port also encourage winter travel to Gangneung.
