Near Gwangneung, where King Sejo of the Joseon Dynasty slept, there is Gwangneung Forest, untouched by humans for over 540 years. There are 15 specialized botanical gardens in the arboretum nestled in the Gwangneung Forest, and there are various experience programs such as arboretum commentary and forest culture experience classes. Designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Korea National Arboretum is perfect for enjoying with your family in unspoiled nature. Pocheon is a treasure trove of botanical gardens. Herb Island with colorful waves and fragrant herbs, and Pyeonggang Botanical Garden, designated as an out-of-habitat conservation institution where you can see rare and alpine plants, are must-visit places in May when spring is in full swing. Hangawon, where you can experience Hangwa, and Pocheon Art Valley, which turned a waste quarry into an eco-friendly space, are also a must-see itinerary.
