Built scientifically and practically, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was recognized for its value and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. It is counted as a unique building in the history of Korean architecture and shows an outstanding appearance to the extent that it is called the ‘flower of the castle’. 2016 is the ‘Year of Visiting Hwaseong in Suwon’, and the attractions and experience programs are more diverse. The road along the castle wall is elegant, and the view of the old wall and the buildings in the city center is also worth seeing. At Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, where King Jeongjo stayed during his trip to Hwaseong, Jangyongyeong warriors perform 24 martial arts performances every day (except Mondays), and the Jangyongyeong guard ceremony is held on Sundays. The trip ends at Suwon Hwaseong Museum, which helps to understand the construction of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, Suwon I’Park Museum of Art, which recharges culture with unique planning exhibitions, Wolhwawon, which exudes an exotic atmosphere, and Na Hye-seok Street, which honors painter and feminist activist Na Hye-seok.
