Spring in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do begins at the rocky cliffs of Donggang River. The main character is Donggang Pasqueflower. At the end of January, when General Dong’s spirit is on the rise, a bean-sized flower bud covered with downy hair forms on a rocky cliff called ‘Pepdae’ by the locals. The flower buds, which spent a month or so patiently relying on the old leaves and stems, open their petals in mid-March. Donggang Pasqueflower, a perennial plant, depends on each other like this and reaches its peak from mid-March to early April. Donggang Pasqueflower is a Korean special plant that can only be found on rocks and cliffs in the Donggang area. It was first introduced to the world by Kim Jung-myeong, a wildflower photographer. Through the efforts of the late botanist Dr. Lee Yeong-no, this flower was found to be a new Pasqueflower. This is the background of the name Donggang Pasqueflower. In the habitat of Donggang Pasqueflower, it is a cyperaceae plant, but the Donggang Gorengi, where the male and female live separately, is also a rare sight. If you meet the messenger of spring embraced by Donggang River, do not miss Arari Village, which reproduces the old house of Jeong Seon of the Joseon Dynasty, and Hwaam Cave, which is the only place in the world where you can enjoy a gold mine and a natural limestone cave at the same time. Jeongamsa Temple, one of the five major Jeokmyeolbogung Palaces in Korea, is the perfect place to calmly finish your trip to Jeongseon this spring.
