Museum Kimchigan in Insa-dong, Seoul is the first kimchi museum in Korea. It opened in 1986 under the name of Kimchi Museum, and in 2015 moved from Samseong-dong to Insa-dong and reopened as Museum Kimchi. Museum Kimchikan exhibits the origin and type of kimchi, making tools, and storage space in the form of related artifacts and digital contents. In 2015, it was named one of the “World’s Top 11 Food Museums” by CNN in the U.S. You can experience the history of kimchi, taste kimchi, and make it yourself. In the Kimchi Sarangbang, the story of kimchi is explained by renting an old kitchen and using a stove, sideboard, and cupboard. The Kimchi Room is a storage space for actual kimchi, and exhibits dozens of kimchi from each region. At Kimjang Maru, you can experience making kimchi yourself (closed on Mondays). When visiting Insa-dong, you can stop by the Beautiful Tea Museum, which is a renovated hanok, to taste flower tea and view various types of tea and teaware. It is good to look around Ikseon-dong Hanok Street, where shops located in hanok alleys are friendly, Samcheong Park Forest Library, which encourages contemplation in the forest, and Ansan Jarak-gil, which is a popular spot for walking in the urban forest.
