In South Korea, there is Korean Sign Language, a language of communication for the deaf that has equal status with the Korean language.
On February 3, 2016, the Korean Sign Language Act was enacted to popularize and share Korean Sign Language through cultural exchanges with the deaf. It aims to create a sense of need and consensus among citizens for Korean Sign Language as a second language, and naturally stimulate interest in deaf culture and Korean Sign Language through sign language performances.
